Help! Text for the use of STarship's Internet Gateway
=====================================================

A) Sending Email Messages into the Internet.
============================================

Three methods may be used for sending messages out into the Internet.
The first method uses the 'To:' field in your message and the second
uses the 'To:' and 'Subject:' field; the third method involves the
'To:' field and places the Internet address in the body of the
message. The second and third methods are designed to let you send
messages to users with very long (more than 36 characters) Internet
addresses. Please find below examples of both message headers as they
will appear in LED (a message editor).

Note that the 51:205/311.0 address is the location of this gateway.

Method 1: (internet address in 'To:' field)

The 'starship@3rdplanet.com' should of course be replaced with the
Internet address of the user you wish to send mail to.

B) Receiving Email messages from the InterNet.
==============================================

Once you have sent a message to the gateway you may receive back a
message from UUCP-ST which will tell you what your internet address
held within the gateway is. Your address should appear similar to
this:

starship@3rdplanet.com (Bob Smith)

where "Bob Smith" is replaced with your usual logon name (real name
only; the gateway does not yet understand aliases). When you have this
address and someone uses it to send you email the UUCP-ST gateway will
automatically convert that message from the internet format to the
AtariNet format and you will receive it as normal netmail addressed to
you via the UUCP-ST gateway.

This then allows you to reply to the message quite easily using your
BBS account, either online or using a QWK reader.

C) UUCP-ST and InterNet Newsgroups.
===================================

STarship is using UUCP-ST to gate Internet NewsGroups from 3rd Planet
into fido technology message echos. You may use them as if they were
normal message areas - no special techniques are needed.

D) Special Messages to the Gateway.
===================================

UUCP-ST will respond to special Email messages addressed as follows:

To: UUCP-ST
Subject: <function>

Where allowable function are: 'who', 'help', 'about', 'history',
'stats', or 'to-do'.

These will bring to you a list of users registered within the
database, the help text on how to use the gateway, information about
UUCP-ST, and its development history (present and future).

These special messages are only available from the AtariNet side of
the gateway. Only one function command may be sent per message!

E) Gateway Limitations.
=======================

- Messages addressed to BBS users from the Internet will be bounced if
  the user has not yet established an Internet account here (there is
  no "General Delivery").
- Messages to 'archie' and 'gopher' are trapped and not allowed through.
- WHO/HELP/ABOUT/HISTORY only work from the AtariNet side.
- Users who subscribe to many mailing lists will be marked "inactive"
  and all netmail/email to/from those abusive users will be
  automatically deleted. NOTE: One or two mailing lists that send
  email no more often than once a week is acceptable use; more than
  two mailing lists, or excessive volume in even a single mailing
  list, is abuse.
