Ancestris is a genealogy program written in
Java. It works under all operating systems: Windows, Linux and
MacOS.
This software complies with the terms of the GNU / GPL license
that defines free software. It respects the GEDCOM standard
as closely as possible, which facilitates the sharing of data with
other genealogists.
Ancestris is a convivial and user-adjustable software, that can fit anybody, whether you are a beginner or an experienced and demanding researcher.
You can create your (individual and family)
forms, edit reports (lists, statistics...), store multimedia
content (photos, videos...). You can make your family book, print
your pedigree chart or your descendancy chart.
In addition, you have at your disposal a number of extensions
(plugins) for the verification of the gedcom format, the
geolocation of the events in your genealogy...
You can browse the net without leaving Ancestris.
Another highlight of Ancestris is the numerous help
sites available. Depending on your need of the moment, you may
prefer to use the integrated help (F1), the collaborative Wiki
website or the 'bible'-like fundamentals (regularly updated by the
author and to be downloaded). If you still have a question you can
share with other users through the discussion list.
If you wish, you can take part in the evolution
of Ancestris, by sharing your opinions and ideas (through the
mailing list) or participating in its development.
